Minutes of the Committee Meeting of the

Albrighton & District Civic Society

held at APC Office, 82B High St, Albrighton,

on Monday 14th November 2011 at 2pm

1. Apologies  received from Rod Smith

 

2. Minutes of Meeting of 3rd October 2011 were approved without any issues.

 

3. Review of AGM

- A positive meeting was held on 24th October, well attended by over 80 residents

-8 new members plus 14 members re-signed.

-A financial surplus of £11.75 after paying room/equipment hire costs of £42.50

-Publicity prior to the evening was very good with excellent handouts, thanks noted to our secretary

-Some issues however with performance of the equipment, in particular the microphone.

 

4. Main Current Issues

a Station Project

-Network Rail – nothing to report

-It was noted that at Cosford, the re-development does not now include ramps to both platforms

-DH will contact Mr S Maddox again to see if they would agree to allowing access to the eastbound platform at Albrighton Station from their land.

-PW to speak to the District Valuer at SC re the HLF application to support value of building and parking land.

-A sub-commitee consisting of PW,RS,DH,RK,MP,PL was set up to continue the work on the preparation of the application to HLF. A meeting was scheduled for Friday Nov 18th at 11 o’clock at PW house to focus on beginning the drafting work.

-John Reeves(architect) joined the meeting at this point and agreed to be on the working party.

-Everyone was asked to produce a list of potential users of the centre for the meeting.

 

b Village Entrance Scheme

-Some Bulb planting work had been done on 5th Nov, this was now finished.

-The next work party was scheduled for 3rd Dec @ 9 o’clock @ Kingswood Rd entrance( and possibly on 5th Dec). A strimmer with a steel blade is needed for this work.

-JB called for volunteers to assist on the 3rd

-JB will arrange for  additional work to be done on the Shifnal Rd/Patsull Rd beds repairing recent damage

 

c  Schools Award

- Birchfield, Albrighton  Primary and St. Mary’s have agreed to participate. JB to make further contact with Idsall school to seek their involvement and to contact St. Mary’s to confirm their participation as they have not responded to recent e-mails.

 

d Local Listing

-Preparatory steps would be taken to getting a comprehensive listing of local important buildings.

-PW to write to David Harding to see if the Historical Society will work with A&DCS on this matter.

 

 

5 Addendum to Steve Brown minutes

 

-Street Furniture

  Nothing done yet

 

-Benches

 Full discussion took place on how to resolve this issue of how to get benches refurbished.  No progress made. Can ADCS intervene between SC and APC to assist with the work? HH suggested an ADCS led voluntary effort to help with the refurbishment.

 

-Village Green

 In limbo.SC will do nothing.

 

-Non highway weeding

-ADCS to volunteer to do weeding with APC(Action MW)

 

Signpost colours

-No action yet.

 

 

6 AOB

-Village Entrance Signs

DH proposed that ADCS fund replacement of the existing village signs. All agreed. PW will speak to Traders Assoc. re any views they may have on this matter since they already have an on-going project to improve general signage.
